Ryan was called to the Bar in 2006 and is a partner of the Firm. Ryan maintains a diverse and growing law practice.
Clients hire Ryan because he is strategic, approachable, and responsive.
Ryan graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2005. Since then, Ryan has handled criminal, commercial, civil, insurance, estate, employment and family law matters and enjoys these areas.
In the insurance field, Ryan primarily defends first-party and third-party personal injury claims and represents insurers in intercompany priority and loss transfer disputes. He also handles SIU and property cases. In addition to representing leading insurance companies, Ryan also represents a provincial recreational organization. Ryan is available to mediate cases on request.
In civil and commercial matters, Ryan has helped clients address financial, contract and property disputes. Ryan has a keen understanding of the law of unjust enrichment and its impact on real property disputes between family members and investors alike, particularly in circumstances where parties invest money into property held in the name of another and where litigation arises over transactions that happened many years before.
In family law matters, Ryan helps clients with litigation concerning children, support and property division. He helps clients navigate both court proceedings and other “family justice” procedures including therapeutic intervention, mediation, Office of the Children’s Lawyer investigation and representation, Voice of the Child reports and parenting capacity assessments pursuant to s. 30 of the Children’s Law Reform Act. He can also help with cohabitation/separation agreements to hopefully reduce litigation. Ryan also has unique, and personal, knowledge and perspective about the emerging area of grandparent-parent litigation and he has helped parents preserve their autonomy from those who assert “grandparents rights.”
Ryan helps clients with wills, estates and capacity matters, including interpreting and challenging wills, dependants’ support, passing of accounts, power of attorney and capacity disputes.
Ryan also handles employment matters, with experience in wrongful termination of employment, discrimination, accommodation and various stages of workplace discipline, particularly attendance management programs and performance improvement plans.
In all matters, Ryan understands that clients’ finances are not unlimited and he uses cost-effective strategies at all stages of litigation.
Ryan graduated with a B.A.C.S. from the University of Western Ontario in 2002, a J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2005 and an LL.M. from the McGill University Faculty of Law in 2008.
When Ryan is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and two beautiful children.
